1.) Grandfather found he was infected when they were going to the country and there was two men who stopped them and they had doctor with them and the only way they could get passed is when they find out if they were infected or not.
2.) Matti and her grandfather left Philadelphia because her mother was infected with the yellow fever and they had to leave her so they would not get the fever.
3.) Eliza didn't get infected with yellow fever.
4.) The fever lasts awhile it can even cause death.
